In the mid 1970's and early 1980's, Kenneth Hudson set out in search of
those museums that struck him to be the most important trend setters in the world. Hudson's corps d'elite included more than
37 astonishing names ranging from the New Metropolitan in New York City to Beamish Open Air Museum in Northern England. Since
then, museum conception and gallery displays have undergone a dramatic metamorphosis.
Interactive touch screens,
hands-on gadgets, school- and tour groups rule the gallery floors. But who really are today's leading pioneers, who will help
shape our conception of the first century museum culture? Who will be remembered tomorrow for their ground breaking ideas?
What are their favorite objects in their modern galleries and what pet peeves do they have?
Movers and shakers will be a regular feature of the Museumkrant, tracking down does responsible for the changes in our
museums. This month:
Wim de Bell of the
Amsterdam Historisch
Museum.
